The Illinois Council on Food and Agricultural Research (C-FAR) is a statewide partnership dedicated to the advancement of Illinois food and agriculture through stakeholder driven, high-impact research and outreach programs. For the past three years, the State of Illinois has appropriated $15 million annually to C-FAR to support research efforts that are strengthening Illinois’ citizens. C-FAR and research partners work diligently to leverage and maximize the impact of this investment. The C-FAR membership is currently comprised of 67 food and agricultural associations, 37 state and university entities, and over 150 individuals.
C-FAR-funded research addresses important needs in expanding agricultural markets, rural economic development, agricultural production systems, human nutrition and food safety, and natural resources. C-FAR’s Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois State University, Western Illinois University, and other Illinois research entities. From developing agricultural remote-sensing systems for precision farming to discovering value-added opportunities for producers to identifying specialty crop markets to delivering food safety training programs, C-FAR research is helping Illinois build for the future. C-FAR is pleased to support many research projects being showcased at Agronomy Day 2001.
